One of the victims of the airstrike who was wounded is hospitalized, said Nasir Ahmad Hebat, the provincial health department chief.
The Afghan defense ministry said in a statement that national defense and security forces conducted an operation on a check post of the Taliban located on the western highway where the insurgent group was “collecting extortion money from people.' The airstrike was carried out to support the operation, the statement said.
According to the statement, the Afghan defense ministry will investigate the civilian casualties.
A U.S.-based institute warned in December that there has been a dramatic increase in airstrikes conducted by Afghan government forces from July to September in 2020, attacks that have led to a sharp rise in civilian casualties.
